TURNBULL GOVERNMENT MUST BACK WARATAH WYNYARD COUNCIL WATERFRONT PROJECT

April 18, 2018

Malcolm Turnbull must invest in North West Tasmanian regional infrastructure by supporting Waratah Wynyard Council’s waterfront masterplan.

Following briefings from Waratah Wynyard Council, Shadow Minster for Regional Servcies Stephen Jones MP said, “The project was investment ready and would support additional economic activity in the Wynyard area.

“Council have made a $3m application to the Commonwealth through the Building Better Regions Program.

 “This should be a no brainer for Malcolm Turnbull as the project supports local jobs, local investment and greater social amenity in the Wynyard area.

 “The Wynyard Waterfront Masterplan builds on other waterfront projects along the entire North West Coast enhancing the liveability and tourism potential of the region.

 Federal Member for Braddon Justine Keay said, “At a state and federal level, Labor understands the value of this project to the community.

 “The project includes;

  • Camp Creek rehabilitation,
  • Improved Wynyard wharf access and carparking,
  • Rebuilding of the seawall between the wharf and Wynayrd Yacht Club,
  • Construction of new boardwalk connecting the two areas and,
  • Construction of a new mulit use facility on the site of the Wynyard Yacht Club

“That is why at the last federal election, Federal Labor made a $2.876m commitment to Waratah Wynyard Councils waterfront masterplan.

 “A similar committment was made by State Labor during the recent state election with the State Government also making similar commitments.

 “The project has bipartisan support at a state level. All that remains is for Malcolm Turnbull to recognise its value and back projects that benefit the regions."
